FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-04-04 by Manuel Abart
This is a phot taken by me right in the middle of the Dumbo District in Brooklyn, NY. It shows a mexican restaurant right in between a construction site and a typical New York appartment building. This information is quit obvious to the viewer, it is the visible information. What we can not see is the information, which lies behind these visible walls. The whole dumbo district is inhabited by a new generation of people and settlers, emerged from gentrification. You could see that by the "graffiti" on the wall. It is not seen as a act of crime, just destroying a house, it is more likely art, made by a local artist in order to express something. This is the kind of invisible information that lies beyond this visible information especially in this area in Brooklyn, NY. Maybe you could also make the invisible visible by looking up this area or more precise this restaurant and see what kind of people are visiting it. You will see, that most of the people are of a young and new generation living all around Brooklyn. So why not use this information to make it a better and sustainable neighbourhood? In many places you can already see, there is something going on. The construction on the right might be no coincidence!
