This photo refers to the Pinacoteca of São Paulo. It was taken by me on a trip during my undergraduate degree in Architecture. The building was built in the last decade of the nineteenth century presenting a structure in thick self-supporting walls of exposed brick masonry. Due to the various problems in which the building was, it was necessary to renovate the building in order to solve such problems. In this case, laminated glass was used to cover the inner courtyard and steel as the main building material. The building therefore managed to establish an interesting dialogue between the use of traditional and new materials (glass and steel) that are now widely used in Brazil due to the globalization of such materials.
