This photo of course was initially taken with an emphasis on the sky. But below lies the Inland Empire in Southern California. From this view its clear that the cities established themselves a long time ago on traditional and accepted means of resources and transport in between the vast mountains and hills (over a hundred years ago). The means for expansion (population, industry, etc) promoted growth in several areas for all cities allowing a functioning grid to become constructed. What was once only local trade has become a global powerhouse of import and export.
