"Construction used to be a localised activity, but with the advancement of construction processes and construction materials almost every building contains components of a globalized economy." In the picture you could see that Concrete, glass, aluminum composite panel and steel had been used for construction. Origin of these materials are not from Sri Lanka. Mainly imported from India (steel, cement), Pakistan (steel, cement), china (Aluminum, glass), Japan (Cement production technology) and some elements from Europe. Because of globalized economy imported building material are cheaper. The sad part of the globalization is the inappropriate use or methods of construction. All these materials have to use in different way to fit hot humid climate and social cultural context of Jaffna Sri Lanka but it seems that the people who are involving the construction process don’t care about this issues. As result of this approach the clients are paying additional cost for energy for cooling. The region losing its uniqueness.
