Selargius is part of the metropolitan area of Cagliari, comprehending the city of Cagliari and the towns of Monserrato, Quartucciu, Quartu and Selargius (first circle) and the towns of Assemini, Capoterra, Decimomannu, Elmas, Maracalagonis, Pula, Sarroch, Settimo S. Pietro, Sinnai, Sestu, Uta, and Villa S. Pietro (second circle). During 1970s, the first circle of the metropolitan area was provided with an electric-bus service, depending on a widespread and still visible infrastructure of double wires and poles. Although its layout could be considered old-fashioned, it is still functional and, in the last few years, the bus service has been reinforced with new electric buses and hybrid trolleybuses that make this infrastructure very important for the metropolitan area.
