FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-02-28 by Joseph Talampas
The photo shows the skyline of the Ortigas Business District, one of three business districts in Metro Manila. Visible is the traffic moving along the main highway, the passengers in the Metro Rail Transit, and the density and location of the buildings and the companies in these buildings. Invisible information includes the fluctuations and behaviours (routes) in passenger and vehicle traffic throughout the day. Another invisible information is the changes in the cooling load in the buildings throughout the day. Analysing the cooling load (solar radiation, heat from equipment, heat from people) can lead to knowledge about the patterns. This knowledge can be used to promote ways to reduce the cooling load (efficient use of equipment, shading, etc.), or to manage the cooling load more appropriately (adopt centralized air-conditioning that is more responsive to the number of people). These can create better thermal comfort and more efficient energy use.
