FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-02-23 by Christian Madsen
1. In the photo we see café guests sitting outside in the January sun. There is almost no wind, and the temperature is therefore mild. In the background we can see the famous Amsterdam canal houses sitting literally on the canal. We can count the amount of women and men in the photo and guess their age, we can guess on construction time and condition of the houses but we couldn't know for sure. 2. Invisible information in this photo are information like water and air quality, income and social status for residents in the area, and how great the risk for flooding of the houses are if the water level starts to rise due to climate change. 3. If the water quality could be improved enough so that people could swim in it, like in the harbor of Copenhagen, it would improve city life dramatically. Certain canals could then become hot spots during the summer where people would gather, enjoy the sun and get cooled of in the canal. It would improve businesses in that area, since people would hang out their for longer periods of time, and it would attract more people in general.
