This picture has been taken while I was on a short break in Tokyo about a month ago, that is, in January 2017. The district that fills the background of this picture is called Marunouchi, and is one of the well-known redevelopment(or revitalisation) site in Tokyo. This area has traditionally been a business/finance district with a number of headquarters of domestic and foreign banks. Although it might have been purely coincidental that there were quite a few cabs at the point when this picture's been taken, but from my personal experience, it indeed seemed that there were more cabs on the streets than in other districts of the city. I figured that the following informations can be made visible from this picture; a) frequent origin and destinations of inner travel by cab during working hours b) energy consumption by the hour in tall office buildings I think the information about the frequent origin and destinations of cab travel during working hours can provide meaningful knowledge in planning the city's public transportation in a more efficient and useful ways. First of all, not like during rush hours, the allocation interval of buses are longer and thus the waiting time is naturally longer. Passengers may decide to use a different means of transportation in that case. Plus, the characteristics of inner trip by cab during working hours may vary from that of other types of travel. For instance, the distance from the origin to the destination may be relatively shorter or longer. The time required for the travel also may differ from other types of travel. This may provide assistance in planning the city's traffic light/public transportation systems.
