This image is from a building in Quito, Ecuador. Ecuador in a developing country in which the construction industry plays a very important role in its economy. In this picture we can see a traditional construction process which is used frequently in Ecuador. Concrete and steel as the materials used for the buildings structure and low density concrete blocks for the masonry. Ecuador produces its own Portland cement and also uses local gravel. However, other chemical admixtures used in the elaboration of concrete are imported from Colombia. As for the steel, Ecuador imports most of it from Chile but it also has its own national steel industry.
