FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-02-19 by Rhianne Fiolka
Assignment 1 Future cities online course In this photo you can see a parking lot and shopping center (from a balcony view). This is a strip-mall style shopping center, and the photo is taken at night. Two "invisible information" that can be extracted out of the visible information of this photo are: 1) The attractiveness of specific commercial areas in the shopping center, shown by the parking locations of the cars at different times during the day. 2) The travel patterns of the vehicles, and paths most used. These are seen by the snow and sleet markings on the road, showing the most used pathways. In example 2, understanding the pathways most used by cars to access different areas of the shopping center may be beneficial for future road and infrastructure planning. If vehicles are not using a parking section or exit road then these areas can be redeveloped in future situations to be pedestrian-oriented and create a more diverse urban space.
