FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"

Good day everyone, my name is Naita Chamberlain and I'm from Kingston Jamaica, West Indies. For the Invincible Information exercise, I have decided to use the location of Half-Way-Tree in the city of Kingston Jamaica. As you can see in the image, the two main things show in the image are cars and the structures within the area. Although I was limited to only able to take the image in my car on my way to work, I thought that it was a importance image to use, because there are things that one does not see. One of main things that jumps out is our high dependency on cars, that we don't take other pedestrians and other motorists, especially people with bicycles. We have a lot of people who walk to work and use bikes for transport means as well, however due to the lack of infrastructure and high importance of cars, people tend not to use them as much and even when they do, it becomes a major hazard for them. On the right of the image, we have the Half Way Tree Transport Centre, the main bus depot of Kingston, so one would presume with that in place, there would be less congestion on the roads and more people would be walking on the road. However due to lack of shading and trees, people tend not to walk a lot in the city and as you can, the cars' windows are up due to the escalating heat, leading them to use air-conditioning, using more energy which means more gas is required and thus leading to more greenhouse gas emissions which is one of leading causes of climate change. Whether it is because of financial constraints or lack of motivation, the lack of infrastructure to provide a comfortable and safe environment for all pedestrians and motorists, a negative social impact, may bring about a higher demand for cars, and more imported fossil fuels is required, a negative financial impact. Therefore, leading to an increase in air pollution and heat island effect due to raise in temperature (a negative environmental impact).
