Generally, in Italy , traditional construction techniques such as masonry or concrete beams/pillars last until today, especially for housing and small sized building. When it comes to large projects (tertiary buildings, special structures etc) , by contrast, steel has become the most utilized material. Although steel construction would be a localized activity even nowadays, globalization makes it easier to import steel from China or Russia, especially if large quantities are needed. This photo depicts the Rome's new convention centre (not yet completed at that time) whose most elements are not produced locally, but rather imported from the outside whereas it would have not been possible to demand from local industry those quantities of steel and glass at the same time and cost.
