When constructing the rooftop of the new Porter School of Environmental Studies, Israel's first LEED Platinum certified building as well as recipient of the Israel government's "Diamond Level" Green Building Standard (5281), various globalized materials were used: 1. The decking is made of a bamboo composite. Bamboo grows in Asia, the fiber was mixed with recycled plastic and pressed into lumber. It is not clear if the entire production process took place in Asia or partly in Israel (i. e. only the raw bamboo was imported to Israel and then the lumber was produced in an Israeli factory) but there is an Israeli import company involved. 2. The corrosion-safe Philips screws used for the decking were imported from Germany via an Israeli import company. 3. The safety glass for the railing was imported from Germany as well. 4. The cheaper carrara-like marble was imported from China. 5. The tuff stone was imported from Turkey. 6. The succulents used for the gardening were grown in Israel but originate from South and Central America as well as South Africa. 7. The concrete walls and steel beams were made from recycled materials. For more information, please see: https://en-environment.tau.ac.il/PSESbuilding/Building_Materials
