A) Growing population of commuters/residents in downtown B) Suburbs surrounding downtown C) University Campus D) Interstate 5 E) Construction in South Lake Union area F) South Lake Union Light Rail route H) Overcast climate ----- 1) Growing congestion on I5 is leading to increased ridership on the light rail 2) Construction in South Lake Union is centered around the light rail route ----- Knowledge: Large construction projects in SLU shows there's an increase in activity, residents and commuters in the area. The construction follows the SLU line in anticipation of the (not pictured) Amazon headquarters, which is to be completed in the coming year. The light rail was intended for Amazon employees to be able to move residencies out of the immediate are of the HQ, and which has been a catalyst for development in the area in general. Finally, a combination of the Amazon move and light rail line has lead to a reconnection of the SLU area to the rest of downtown. Historically the neighborhood was cut off from its surrounding communities by the lake, Interstate 5, and a few bordering highways. The light rail created a transit bridge, while lid projects over I5 have allowed walkability to extend over the interstate, freeing up the neighborhood to allow accelerated development.
