The Netherlands barely has any raw materials. Only sand and gravel can be found within the Netherlands and they are the only raw materials used in building construction that are local. All other building materials come from other parts of the world. Cement/concrete comes from Switzerland, Ireland. Steel comes from England, Belgium, Germany. Hardwood comes from Asia or Afrika. Softwood comes from Canada or Scandinavia. And so on... Even part our workforce exist of a lot of 'imported' workforce. We have workers from Poland, Romania and other eastern European countries. The thing that does happen in the Netherlands is assembling all these raw materials into windowsills, aluminium strips, doors, pre-fab panels or other building parts that can be assembled.
