This building, called the bride's cake by the locals, is fully covered with a white sandwich panel, a composite panel consisting of two aluminium cover sheets and a mineral-filled polymer core. This product originates from Germany, and it’s a one of a kind building in Lisbon. The panels were shipped from one of the company’s production sites: Germany, China. India or USA, and it resemble the snowy look of Nordic and Central Europe countries. What the picture does not show is the HVAC system on roof, and some exterior units in some windows, that, due to the inadequate energy performance characteristics of the materials chosen for the building insulation, have to be in place to assure the necessary indoor comfort conditions, at the expense of a heavy energy bill.
