FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2017-01-26 by Poppy Kalaitzi
We can make some observations about the visible information that we can extract from the photo, such as the parking problem of the city. There is no parking space available, so people park inside the limits of the road. Another visible information is the optical pollution, where we can see too many signs, put together in no particular order. We can also see the difficulty of moving on the pavement, which results in people moving in the street and not using the crosswalk. Last, we can see the garbage bins on the side of the road, which can add to the unorganised profile of the city. One of the two invisible information, is the security, because of the many things left on the balconies, the many signs, the safety of the pedestrians and the unhealthy environment because of the trash. The second one can be the culture aspect, which can be seen in the parking problem and the traffic, because people are constantly using their car, they don't easily walk in a city centre that is walkable and they cause traffic problems as a result. The culture aspect can be also seen in the way people interact. In the photo we can see an old woman pulling the groceries in a basket, talking to her husband from the balcony.
