In Greece, in my opinion the most important the three most important stocks and flows are People, food and density. Because of the economic crisis and the percentage of unemployment the most qualified and highly educated people are migrating to other countries where they can have better jobs and prospects. In the meantime, the refugees arriving in Greece by the thousands are creating new housing issues. Although, there are "stock" areas where people of the same background have stayed for decades. Even though, the refugee problem is considered a problem I think that in the future if it is handled appropriately it can prove very good because people of different cultures will interact. It is an opportunity for urban development and planning. The second stock and flow is Food. Food is something Greece is known for and the production is something which has helped the economy. It is true that as cities grew it moved to the outskirts but it still is a very important element of our GOP. The only reason we import food is not out of necessity but because of the globalised economy and the existence of produce in other places which we are not able to produce. The exportation of food in the long run will prove very helpful to our economy. The third stock and flow is density of the city. Because of the migration of people from Minor Asia in the 1920's there was a need for housing in Athens. But not only then within a century the density of Athens and other Greek cities have grown immensely. The flow of density is much more prominent than the stock in the case of Athens. The flow of the density of the city could be something which leads to a reform or reconsideration of the planning of the city and maybe in the future measures will be taken to minimise pollution and maximise green spaces in the city. The photo was taken on Lycabetus mountain in Athens and I chose this to show the density of the city and the very few green spaces that exist.
