a. Provisioning services Local water reservoirs (Gramame and Marés) and rivers (Mumbaba and Tibiri) provide fresh water. Food, raw materials and medicinal resources come from surrounding Atlantic Forest and some are transported from Amazon rainforest. b. Regulating services Atlantic Forest’s remaining protected areas within and surrounding the city are the main regulators in this city. c. Habitat or Supporting services There are some natural protected areas within the city, but the main one is the Botanical Garden, also known as Mata do Buraquinho, which is the world’s largest native semi-equatorial forest within an urban area (M.R.V. Barbosa, 1996. Estudo florístico e fitossociológico da Mata do Buraquinho. Universidade Estadual de Campinas. p. 270. Source: http://www.bibliotecadigital.unicamp.br/document/?code=vtls000107407). d. Cultural services The most important recreational and touristic areas within this city are the Seashore, the Sólon de Lucena Park, also known as Lagoa Park (Lagoon/Pond Park) and the Arruda Camara Zoobotanical Park (where the photo was taken), also known as Bica (Fountain) because of one of the city’s first water sources.
