1. visible information This is the view of the city center of Veldhoven. It shows some people with shopping bags on the right. One can also see the Albert Hein (supermarket) and Gall & Gall on the right near the closest couple. People wear warm clothing. A decorative red pot is visible containing a tree. Also present in the forefront is a large stone. The sky is half clouded. On the left a round building is visible with brightly coloured patterns. Centrally there is a metallic slide, a small sign at the right bottom says "Verboden te beklimmen" (forbidden to climb). Behind it there is a pink column on a roundabout. To the left and right of the slide a few bikes and a few more people are visible. At the back of the picture some brown brick structures are present. Two light poles are centrally located and an iron tower arises in the background. There are long shadows from the red pot and the rock on the foreground. The trees have almost completely lost their leaves. 2. Invisible information 1. The city center Veldhoven was build at the end of 1970's. Hence the brown brick buildings on the left and right (e.g. Albert Hein). It tries to mix a shopping area, a theater complex (bright building on the right) and since 1988 the town hall (just not visible on the picture). The building in brick on the left back is police station and just behind it (not visible) is the fire department. Around the corner is also the library. This city center was build to the north of the old city center. Since it was established the city of Veldhoven expanded more and more to the north (follow the shadows, this picture was taken around noon). 2, The slide in the center of the picture is actually the entrance to a parking which is situated below the pavement. This parking is free for an hour for people shopping in the albert hein. 3. Establishing a new city center around 30 year ago. Since the establishment of the 'new city' center the expansion of the city was mainly directed to the north. Large expansions are still taken place. The main public transport hub is also located here. The main roads and public transport lines to the north are planned to accommodated the increasing population. The main road to the center of Eindhoven (the nearest big town) is situated only 100 meters to the north of the round about visible on the picture. A famous floating cycling round about was opened a few years ago. Access roads to the high way are changing to meet extra population in the north of Veldhoven. Due to the still expanding population, a complete new area further to the north with also a shopping mall is currently under development. Different area's have clear building rules (style of housing, height...) and intermix different income groups. To improve the City Center's appeal renovation works are taking place. The theater is recently upgraded (bright coloured windows on the left), a cinema will be added. New decorative elements are installed: e.g. the red pots are somewhat older, but a more extensive refurbishing activity is planned.
