This is a global construction project on many levels. In the building materials sense, it is most likely built using materials from around the world, including the "brick and mortar" of the building itself, the global materials that make up the machines that build it, and the geographies that make up the human workforce. In another way, this building is global in that is must cater to students from around the world at Notre Dame, and attracts students from around the world to attend. In addition to the materials and labour force, it impacts the global makeup of the student body as well as the global recognition of the university.
