FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 1 : "Making the Invisible - Visible"
Uploaded on 2016-06-26 by Clinton Harrison-Lynch
This picture represents a typical residential construction site in Perth, Western Australia. Considering the invisible forces within this picture, one may be the downstream effects that this wastage may have on ecological factors, another force may be the overall quality of the construction - inferred by the seemingly 'wrong' amount of waste or care in construction. I would like to think further on the aspect of wastage as the invisible forces in play. I believe that this kind of wastage has the implications that there is something fundamentally wrong with the building practices, and therefore, accepted norms of building within Western Australia. Minimising with the intention of eradicating high degrees of wastage such as this, has some implications of an improved building process and standard, with the negative downstream effects that this kind of wastage may bring is stymied. An example of this is that homes are constructed in confinements that do not allow for highly erroneous work (think pre-fab or modular in a factory setting). Thank-You.
