Uploaded on 2016-12-08 by Jako Roux
1. Upload a photo from your area, or the closest urban area, (the photo must be taken by you) and comment all the information that is visible in this photo. Flinders Street Station is Australia’s oldest train station and the busiest suburban railway station in the southern hemisphere. The main station building, completed in 1909, is a cultural icon of Melbourne, with its prominent dome, arched entrance, tower and clocks one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. It is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. Located on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets in Melbourne, Australia. It serves the entire metropolitan rail network and Gippsland regional network. 2. Identify and present two "invisible information" that can be extracted out of the visible information of this photo. Services over 1500 trains and 110,000 commuters each day. Its 708-metre main platform is the fourth longest railway platform in the world. 3. Select one of your choices from the previous question and describe how this invisible information can become knowledge and contribute to the planning of a more livable urban space. With Melbourne being the fastest growing city/metropolitan area in Australia this information can help and assist in: (a) understand and identify the fastest growing suburban areas (b) growth and increase in number of people making use of public (train) transport (c) identify congestion areas which could require an increase in train services or potential other forms of transport i.e. better planned road infrastructure (d) housing development needs (e) transport and commuter needs within the CBD area
