This photo was taken by me and it is in Bangalore, India. This steel structure is next to my office and hence I have posted the current stage and the previous stage of construction. It is almost in its final finish phase but the assumption of me and many architects was that this structure might be an iconic one but sadly the design did not with held the steel as an element but unnecessarily enveloped the structure on 2 sides with hollow blocks. The top steel was installed with a heavy crane and being a narrow road they had to close down the access to that road for almost a week. The central steel core and the top structure was supposed to take the slab load and glazing but as design progressed the concept was flawed. The context here is mainly that being a hot place and privacy issue, the design intent changed. The architect was a Canadian and the context of the surrounding was forgotten by him or neglected as an apartment requires few privacy and also the more glazing, the more heat. The materials used in the building has been procured from various parts of the world and is a luxurious apartment due to the prime location and hence the interior is done in a such a way that it caters to high profile Indians who are internationally placed. The structure like this which is designed by foreign architect and losing the local context is increasing in India as many Indians shell out money for brand value and status quo. Globalization starts right at house or home.
