1. Stock: Transportation infrastructure Flow: People commute for work and studies into the city 2. Stock Tourist attractions and hotels: Flow: tourists and business travelers 3. Stock: Pollution Flow: Car and bus traffic emissions from daily commuters 1. The transportation infrastructure of Chicago counts on a long established public transportation system which accounts for 10-12 bn trips per year. It supports the daily flow of people which enter the city center to go to work or to study. The CTA (Chicago Transportation Authority) and the establishment of an increasing bike lane infrastructure and bike sharing system in order to reduce or keep a daily flow of cars and vehicles entering and leaving the city center for several business and private reasons. An increasing provision of bike sharing stations across the city and nearby several CTA stations have been initiated as an incentive to reduce car flows into the city. 2. Tourist attractions and hotels in the city center attract a constant flow of tourists each year. Museums, Theatres, Concerts and Sports events attract around 8 million people to visit Chicago per year. Hotels can be added into the stock of Tourist attractions but the hotel room environment also competes or compliments the service to allow the flow of business travelers to move smoothly. 3. The stock of pollution is strongly related to the public transportation system and other environmental friendly initiatives like the bike lane infrastructure and the bike sharing system to create initiates for a higher flow of bikers into and out of the city and a lower flow of cars into and out of the city. The stock of Public Transportation system ca also be contra-productive in case buses are not used efficiently as their emissions can be high if for example waiting along the curb side with running engine when waiting for next trip or bus usage is not measured (e.g. 2 buses drive behind each other with only a couple passengers.
