FC-01x Future Cities (Self-Paced) - Exercise 2: "Stocks and Flows"
Uploaded on 2016-11-29 by Ljupka
A real example of one of the most important stocks and flows that enter my city are electricity, food and people. All of the mentioned stocks and flows are able to enter, stay and leave my city. Electricity is a fundamental point from where life begins. It is all around us-powering technology like cell phones, computers, lights, irons, air conditioners. We cannot escape electricity; even throughout nature, from the lightning in a thunderstorm to the synapses in the humans' body. Food - The great question is how is a city fed? Every day, for us humans, needs to be produced, transported, bought and sold enough food so we can survive. Food affects city life. The availability and quality of the food we eat varies by neighborhood or community. We, people, have the power to transform the city in an imperceptible - but crucial way. When we enter a city, we change the buildings' environment, the city's natural surroundings and everything which is a part of it. We have the capability to destroy, improve, embellish or harm the state in which a city is. The one way the import of electricity in the city could change for the better is for us humans, to rationally use it. Whenever we don't feel the need of electricity and technology, we should stop and rethink: "Do I really need this turned on?" When it comes to food, every day, each day, an enormous amounts of food are thrown away. Supermarkets, restaurants, hotels and every other food serving building, have the capacity of throwing out tons and tons of unused, unsold food that ends up in the trash. Just think about how this food can be reused into a much more sensible way? Food has the tendency to fall apart, and all that matter affects our health and our whole existence.
