This picture was taken in Shoreditch, London where the whole district has been going through a rehabilitation project over the last 20 years. Interestingly they've decided to preserve the front wall of the building while rebuilding the rest using modern norms and material. I couldn't track where the concrete and steel were sourced from but most likely a good part of the elements used to rebuild this lot has been shipped from all over the world. In this case it is more of an esthetic choice than a sustainable move from an economic standpoint, still I appreciate the effort put into mixing old and new and giving a new life to an old facade while not disparaging the identity of the borough.
