Depending on the weather in Seattle, my preferred method of transportation is a combination of bicycle and bus. The cost is about the same as driving if you include the tolls and general operation costs, but the environmental and personal benefits are immensely superior. The social aspect of personal communication with other riders on the bus, combined with the fitness aspects of walking and riding a bike make this the ideal mode of transportation. However, if time is tight or I need to run further errands after work/school, driving is sometimes the only option to maximize my time. *On a side note, I live on one side of a lake with a bridge that is in the process of being completed, and cannot accommodate bicycle or pedestrian traffic for the next year or so. This explains why I cannot simply walk or bicycle directly from my home to any of my work or university locations.
