Question 1 My top 5 livability criteria: 1. Safety 2. Environment 3. Job Opportunities 4. Culture 5. Housing Question 2 I live in Victoria, BC, Canada. My reasons for being here are as follows: 1. Family connections. I grew up here. 2. My business (job) is here 3. Environment. We are situated in a beautiful natural environment with plenty of urban forest surrounded by the waters of the Salish Sea. 4. Inertia. Remaining here is easier than moving away. 5. Peace and human security. We live in a strong and peaceful state with strong institutions, something many of my relatives do not enjoy. Question 3 If I were the mayor of Victoria, the number one critical intervention I would pursue to improve livability would be to more aggressively pursue social housing investment from all levels of government. Victoria has some of the most expensive housing in Canada, second only to Vancouver, meaning it is among the most expensive places to live on earth which results in a great deal of suffering and stress for the poor and working classes. Question 4 Places I would consider moving to: Vancouver, Ljubljana, and Sarajevo. Vancouver fulfills all my livability criteria listed for question one except housing availability. Ljubljana and Sarajevo fulfil all the criteria except perhaps job opportunities. The decisive factors for me in choosing these cities is their closeness to mountains and natural areas and distinctive culture, both in the sense of interesting architecture and urban form and vibrant arts, music and diversity.
