My livability criteria ------------------------- (1) Safety (2) Culture (3) Climate (4) Environment (Compactness) (5) Infrastructure 2. Why I live in Paris ---------------------- (1) I have a job in Paris (2) My family lives in Paris (3) Excellent cultural environment (4) Tolerable climate (better than most other western european capitals) (5) I love to walk in the city "Quartier latin" photo from: http://www.keyword-suggestions.com/bGF0aW4gcXVhcnRlciAgcGFyaXM/ 3. Paris and livability criteria -------------------------------- (1) Safety: Average overall (because of crime and terrorism), High in my neighbourhood (70/100) (2) Culture: Excellent (95/100) (3) Climate: Tolerable (but worse than other cities I would have liked to live in) (70/100) (4) Environment (Compactness): Fair moderated by Paris' relatively large size (70/100) (5) Infrastructure: Average overall (transportation and heat island are big issues) (70/100) Total livability score: 75/100 4. What would I change (my first measure as a mayor) ---------------------------------------------------- I believe that the no. 1 problem is that of carbon emissions and heat island effects. It is thus of utmost importance to introduce fully electric buses and promote the adoption of electric cars by building public charging stations. The city of Paris is already on the way of implementing such infrastructures. https://www.edf.fr/en/the-edf-group/world-s-largest-power-company/edf-official-partner-of-a-low-carbon-world/xxx/electric-buses-in-paris https://chargemap.com/city/paris So, if I were a mayor I would introduce policies to tackle the related issue of clean energy for buildings, for example by promoting or subsidizing the installation of solar panels to reduce electricity/fuel needs for heating/cooling. A second issue is that of metro stations accessibility (mainly for elderly and handicapped people, but also for kids and baby strollers). I would try to build elevators in metro stations with the plan to eventually cover the whole network. 5. Why do we move ----------------- I would move to Barcelona, Turin or Sydney. Compared to Paris and according to my livability criteria here are the justifications. Barcelona: Excellent climate, Safer than Paris, Rewarding cultural environment (Paris is far better), Compact city (much more than Paris), Infrastructure sufficient for its size Turin: Climate better than a Paris, Safer than Paris, Rewarding cultural environment (Paris is far better) Compact city (much more than Paris), Infrastructure sufficient for its size Sydney: Excellent climate, Safer than Paris, Average cultural environment, Looser city than Paris but still walkable and accessible, Excellent infrastructure
