My livable cities ----------------- (1) Barcelona (2) Turin (3) Zurich (4) Sydney (5) Paris My livability criteria ---------------------- (1) Safety (2) Culture (3) Climate (4) Compactness (5) Infrastructure Is Paris livable/sustainable? ----------------------------- (1) Average safety (compared for example to Zurich and Sydney) (2) Excellent culture (3) Tolerable climate (but worse than my other most livable cities) (4) Fair compactness moderated by its relatively large size (5) Average infrastructure (for the whole metropolitan area) Can Paris livability be improved? --------------------------------- (1) Safety (from both regular crime and terrorism) is the most pressing and obvious issue. (2) Infrastructure has a long way to go, from "small" issues such as metro station accessibility (for elderly and handicapped) to "big" ones such as heat island reduction and carbon emissions.
