In this context, I believe that urban canyon could be considered a synonym for backlanes. High buildings and very close to one another, working as large greenhouses, retaining heat and blocking this heat exchange between the environment and the urban materials. This photo expresses a good example of urban canyon in my city, Porto Alegre (Brazil). This photo was not taken by me.
