There are very few roads on this side of the island and people are highly dependent on a few main passages. This transportation network has an impact on the city's mountainous region as rocks need to blasted and roads need to be paved. Simultaneously, the need for water, means that reservoirs must be built and maintained in various parts of the city to accommodate a growing population. The Tai Tam Reservoir is a very large reservoir which was built many years ago, but still functions. It is an important part of the city's infrastructure. This has been accomplished in the Tai Tam section of Hong Kong to create a very natural looking beautiful landscape.
