Introduction Electrical train networks exist for more then a century. In the Netherlands, the Utrecht central transportation terminal is the main hub for the train network. Here, electricity is extremely crucial as failures will immediately result in a cascade of delays throughout the whole train network in the Netherlands. With a (future) design capacity of 150 trains per hour (ProRail, 2015), the margins are very small and beckup facilities extremely important. References ProRail (2015).
