![Govan Road, Glasgow][1] A section of the area’s main thoroughfare, Govan Road, was recently reconfigured to enable the redirection of bus routes directly into Govan Cross town centre. Water pipes and electricity cables serving the metro station (the white & brown modernist building at the top left of the photo), the shopping centre (the red brick building in the top centre), and other local business units and residential buildings are evident under the dug-up tarmac. These normally hidden systems indicate the dependency many modern cities have on extensive subterranean infrastructure, which exacerbates the disruption that comes with road maintenance and refurbishment.
