![enter image description here][2] The image attached is taken in Al-Manama Road (D67), Dubai. Far in the horizon can be seen electricity transmission lines as well as a sewage treatment plant. Upto a few years ago, there was very little in this area however slowly there has been growing urbanization- the Academic City (mainly for higher education) and the Dubai Outsource Zone (mostly businesses) have brought some activity here. In addition, the nearby International City, al-Warqan and Silicon Oasis (both residential areas) have catered to people working/ studying in these areas. Initially all this area was desert; without the placing of the required infrastructure- roads, sewage and electricity- none of this area (or much of Dubai, for that matter) would be capable of being serviced and thus exist.
