When I moved to Copenhagen it was very surprising for me how much artificial light there is all around the city, in form of both streetlights, lights from windows of different buildings, and lights from flashy advertisements. Here everybody are used to having light on the streets during nights. The lights give the city a nice "buzz" during the nighttime, making it feel very vibrant. Lights also give the feeling of safety on the streets during nights. There would hardly be so many people out on the streets during nights if the city would completely lack lights and be as dark as the nights are in these regions. The photo depicts the dependency on electricity that a capital city in the northern hemisphere has. It can be very dark here during most of the year, but lights make cities liveable nevertheless.
