![Gran Via Les Corts][1] In this photograph, we can see an important urban road with high traffic traversing a dense residential area. The urban road has been semi-buried and acoustic protections have been implemented on both sides of the infrastructure in order to protect the buildings of the inhabited surroundings from the noise. This is an example of the interaction between different urban systems such as transportation infrastructures and residential city fabric. In this case, the strong impact of the transportation system over he rest of the city and its inhabited environments has forced to find a balance between them, applying different solutions depending on the type of the problem and the affected areas.
