The city shown in the picture above belongs to Guayaquil city, which is a 62-percent dependent city on hydraulic energy provided by Marcel Laniado Hidro-electric Power Station, and 36 percent depends on thermal energy distributed by a national interconnected system. Although the government is in process of changing the energy productive matrix to become a hydraulic dependent country with cleaner energy production up to the year 2017, the impact of this mega projects is considerably higher in comparison to solar or wind energy supply because it is consuming great portion of agricultural lands and causing a disruption in flora and wildlife among other effects.
