**Energy based city.** This photo was taken in a relative new area of Shanghai, the Pudong New district. The electricity poles and wires are obvious objects in picture. The residence building, the traffic light, the electrical motorbike, all of those won't not be possible without energy. So it's easy to conclude that what you see is a energy based area in city. Energy is the fundamental element in urban systems. **Transportation connects city elements, including people, buildings and infrastructures.** The big cross, the wide roads, the bridge and the river cross the bridge are some kind of transportation objects benefit the people living in those residence buildings. Without a well designing and functioning transportation system, it would be difficult for them to go to the downtown to work, to play, or to anywhere for any purpose. The transportation system connects them to the world out of their living place. By the way, I live in this area. I transport myself to work everyday by bike through this cross, and I am post this piece with a computer power by the electricity probably transported by those wire lines in picture.
