This photo is the center of town in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, USA, illustrating the importance of infrastructure. It's an interesting juxtaposition of old and new. On the left in the background you see buildings that were part of a textile mill. The mill itself is long gone but many related structures remain, in various states of disrepair and uses. In the center you see the railroad tracks. The railroad would have connected this town to the more urbanized areas, taking people and goods to larger cities. Without this infrastructure, this town probably would have a much different fate. On the right is a restored rail depot. It's not a working depot anymore but simply a covered structure used for community events such as the farmers' market. The buildings on the right side represent the present and future of Fountain Inn. However, the railroad is still in use and remains part of this region's infrastructure, despite it changed role since the 20th century. [1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14323278283433097.jpg
