Changes to make more livable like was
FC-01x Future Cities (1st Run) - Exercise 3: "Factors of Livability"

5 Cambridge is great too but again some areas are great and some not so great. Nothing is ever available in historic (or historic looking) convenient areas either! Although I can appreciate an active city even at night virtually all residents would agree with me that we do not appreciate my residence (my home) being the center of activity outside our windows! Observe surveys and you will find that people like to be able to sleep at home. The area was the perfect environment before the 5 year master disaster plan by Boston University Administration! Please read to the bottom to find out the changes (Bu) that occurred after the expansion to be three times the size. 1 Serenity- to sleep, study, read, meditate. According to this class it is proven that noise often follows violence or other unpleasantness so be concerned with overcrowding already! 2 Public transportation (the (T) Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority system should be the life line of Metro Boston residents (Inside route 128) After all we are the most highly condensed city in the US. after New York City. No room for more cars and wider roads. Unfortunately when building in metro Boston especially in the Alston/Boston boarder buildings went up with abandon no concern for the transit needs of the residents! More then 12 buildings on two blocks and still building with abandon! With BU the only thing that matters is taking property at any cost and making the largest buildings possible with usually no parking per. building! Just more building! In spite of being near Boston University who only gives to community the more they are caught doing the wrong things, many areas near me are historically preserved residential areas that are really beautiful and often peaceful. 3 Culture in terms of food I have 5 grocery stores within 30- 40 min. walk. Lots of culture of all kinds can be found in Metro Boston also. 4 Love that Metro Boston was established on two principles one being the walking city and the other being historic. A lot of history here the architecture is not like any other city. The architecture lends its self to a town/city feeling when in certain areas. By this I mean it is both and the best of both worlds put together in one area. 5 At the moment health care is affordable for me. 6 My building is the best in Metro Boston we even have a filtration system heat/cold. This course told us that(found in 10.6) " the ranking, which provides scores for lifestyle challenges in 140 cities worldwide, shows that since 2009 average liveability across the world has fallen by 0.7%, led by a 1.3% fall in the score for stability and safety. While this may seem marginal it highlights that over 50 of the cities surveyed have seen declines in liveability over the last five years." I know this to be true first hand. What has changed in my neighborhood that start with the obvious Boston University tripled in size and population. As a result the (T) public transit has more and more crowded every year since then. BU needed to take responsibility and be transparent about this and openly let the community ride on their shuttle buses which are paid for in part by the state. An attitude by Boston University sports teams of Rape with whom ever they want when ever they want. Charged not one by twice and I know at least one was convicted and I believe the other was also. Attitude of everything should belong to them for their own personnel use. These undergrads have even told me words to this effect. Universities should own everything for their own personnel use. Vandalized my building numerous times. Oh and one of the cars that belonged to my building they through tar on it! Bu Owns parts of many cities and they even own all the way down to Kenmore square but they do not utilize this space in fact the chase students away from hanging our here. Again they do the same with the homeless. The few people and non-bu businesses that reminded in Kenmore square their doors were repeatedly knocked down and the homeless were employed to sleep there so the tenants did not feel safe and would leave. The businesses were also robbed several times. The same as today Bu administration if the news is negative they always say I know nothing! BU Rooftop band specializing in drums and horns that played for several hours day and or night whatever they felt like doing! We could hear them talk see their mouth move and of course here that BIG band of several people! the dead end that cars and trucks used to turn around in at the end of the street (less noise) was made into parking spaces. Routinely VIP's park in 3 fire zoning for hours and sometimes a day at a time! Two of these fire zoning are along side two different building. At one point the two nearest my building were painted Boston University only! Too much power I know these are fire lane zones! BU people gathering with parking commission to have more and more events then they used to and they get bigger and bigger! Putting up more no parking signs for yet another and another big BU event! It has become so bad that it is a safety hazard it takes more than 20 minutes to get around the block! (ambulances, fire, police) Cars and truck turn around in the middle of the street (back up sirens) as other cars honk their horns! Signs should be put up that say no u-turn. It is not far to go around the square of stolen BU property! Lying to the zoning board and telling residents nothing they can do about it is theft! Secondly Loitering is at an all time high now that the numbers of undergraduates at Bu has tripled. The noise (loitering) and possible crime starts at least one or two nights before the BU event! Please put up no loitering signs! Take out the hangout park circle put shrubs on each side of the circle so that people have to walk in single file. Hangout circle is a hangout/ skateboard/ bike jump the curb on the street place to hangout! The second sidewalk that is now a hangout park for games like jump the metal railing and jump concrete curvature with skate board near hangout park with benches. Takeout this extra sidewalk/park it is a public nuisance! Put in ever-green bushes. Can also use the sidewalk on other side of sidewalk. This side does not need two sidewalks. We don't need any around this stolen area. Take out the benches and metal railing as well. The trees here are not full and they have more leaf blowers then they have leaves! Paid by the hour not doubt because it takes hours to collect 10 leaves or so! Public transport system in the centre of the city ok. But it has to transport so many people that it becomes unpleasant and delayed the further you go outbound. You then have to live a long way from the centre to have some space which means that you spend a large amount of time in travelling. There are several solutions to this. Make the suburbs of Metro Boston more like smaller local centres attracting offices so people don't have to travel so far to work or pleasure. Put the libraries back into the cities along the transit lines, create more green spaces give back the park to Alston that is now the softball field! Turn the Bu/New Balance stolen property to a garden for the Bu culinary school and the community as a community garden! Create more areas for civic meetings and structured events like meetup. These people that are the organizers have a lot of knowledge about things that they like to share with the community for free but they have no place to call home! No public houses here, no library (most underutilized in the country because it is in no where land not even technically what most people even call Alston) few people, little if any public transit. Not even any public green space no park in Alston although borders seem to change which isn't fair Brighton park is still Brighton even if they distorted the truth. The Alston Star market has been the Alston Star market for decades but borders sometimes seem to grow feet and walk down or up a few blocks. These things needed things mentioned above add the the quality of life! Solution number one fight the Corruption, because nothing will work Urban planning, simulations if money aka. corruption is the only thing that matters this is not sustainability! Please do not let corruption prevail! Further more landlords should look at tenants for who they are- do they have good credit, at good tenant/neighbor history? Do they have personnel references? To look at people as a class system does not work as mixed income building stabilize the market without adding a lot of trouble like public housing. The other big negative thing that happened was that Bu started putting lights on the stolen property they are very bright and they are often left on at night! As this lecture pointed out lack of sleep causes all kinds of problems! 24 hour light and noise is a huge problem! Just recently they worked hammering at 2:30 Am in the wind/noise tunnel of a neighborhood! After being in trouble they are more quiet then before but do what ever they please and try not to get caught! Make the fields like any other regular public field take down the loud speakers, micro phones and lights!
