Thirty years ago, that landscape was three times larger than today it is. During the last thirty years, it has been built up the touristic city of Maspalomas on that landscape. The dune landscape area has been reduced, occupied by hotels, apartments buildings, malls and streets. The current dune area is surrounded by the touristic city. The consequences of build activity is that it has changed the way the winds and waves work over the dunes. So, year by year, the dunes are decreasing. There are areas where the sand is disappearing, and it's been replaced by stones, not only in the shore border but even in the middle of the dune landscape. In other areas of the island, suburban villages have been built on the ravines, changing the road of the rain water. It has provoked danger for the buildings and people, and has affected to the local environment (plants and animals). It'll be very important for the future of the environment that surround us and its sustainability that we take care of how and where we build up new buildings and city extensions
