Energy cuts are a fact of daily life in Nairobi. This has promoted a reliance on personal generators in households. Impacts on the city include the high cost of electricity, high use and dependence on fossil fuels, and the high cost of health issues related to air pollution from the diesel exhaust of the generators. Other health risks are those related to the lack of power in households, including food spoilage, etc. for those who cannot afford to buy or run a generator.
