The city thrives because of the people that makes it tick but also because of the underpinning infrastructure that keeps it running.. the underground subways systems, bus networks, connectivity to other countries via the airports and also the municipal water and waste disposal network. Without these infrastructure, the city would not have developed into the way it is today.
