The images are not very enlightening (I don’t know anything about photography) but they try to illustrate the impact of physic infrastructure over time and how they contributed to the growth of the urban agglomeration. ![enter image description here][1] Apúlia, Portugal In this first picture we can see how the windmills, the main source of energy and a major source of wealth of the inhabitants of this village at the beginning of the last century, were incorporated in the growth of the seaside village, now transformed into beach houses. During the evolution of the village other infrastructure were created, such as roads, sidewalks, water supply for public, sanitation, street lighting, wi-fi, etc. Only older residents still remember the conditions in which they lived at the beginning of the century. Newer residents enjoy a standard of living similar to a city without realizing the amount of infrastructure created (usually buried). The need for infrastructure was urgent, only for improving the quality of life of its residents, but also as a driver of seaside tourism in the region. ![enter image description here][2] Apúlia, Portugal But the source of wind power was not completely abandoned, though the image is not very clear (I tried without much success to enlarge the turbine), and a new project has been implemented: the WindFloat. This project, implemented by EDP Energia, presents investment of 20 million euros and aims to provide electricity to the villages along the coast. It’s a turbine that generate electricity through the waves and wind. The platform is visible from the beach.
