As you can see the shoreline varies on either side of the groyne, as sand is moved and deposited by the ocean waves and tide. With ocean levels predicted to rise as a consequence of global warming, there will be a greater impact on the coast line and infrastructure will be required to address this problem. In some coastal suburbs there are plans to build sea walls. Some insurance companies charge more for houses on the beach front, due to future weather predictions.
