[1]: https://edxuploads.s3.amazonaws.com/14176733344897978.jpg Paris is called the city of lights and is a clear example of our dependence on the electrical infrastructure, not just to provide lighting, but also to highlight, decorate and to romanticize a city. This photograph shows the different levels at which we make use of the electricity infrastructure - to light homes, to light streets, car lights, lights to decorate the Eiffel tower, lights to highlight street elements, lights for shop forefronts - the more the light the more attractive we perceive it to be. The perception of urban form and spaces also change with the nature and intensity of lighting. A street without any lighting and the same architectural form and feature as the below photograph would have been perceived as unsafe / dangerous to walk through at night.
