Like all others cities around the world, Florianópolis grows as far as car reaches. The road system introduces vectors of urban growth where before there was just nature or agricultural uses. All plains are occupied. City and nature disputes spaces instead of integrating. All green area is threatened by irregular occupations, business ventures or pollution. The transportation becomes expensive and not effective, forcing the use of individual vehicles. The water and sewage system also suffers for the distances. Every summer, some area suffers flooding or landslides because were unplanned.
