New york city, specifically Manhattan, is a good example on how the tiny island started to invest more in high rise buildings to meet the demand of its growing population. Once the construction of such buildings was completed they had to bring more of those basic services so the city could keep functioning as its usual pace, however people instead of deciding to live in the outer boroughs of the city, they keep moving in to Manhattan making more crowded, and giving the city more problems like meeting the demand for water, gas, electricity. most of these are easy to meet but when it comes to transportation and accessibility to the city, the infrastructure is always changing just as the skyline. Nowadays NYC is making its street friendlier to pedestrians and cyclist, and most of the new skyscrapers have to meet LEED standards. In transportation advances are being made too, such the constructions of a new subway line in the east side of Manhattan and the creation of new train stations. All these new regulations and projects make NYC a desirable place to live, it has a great infrastructure but it always come to a big price to meet all them and its reflected on the high cost of living of the city.
